inHarmony Podcast E11: Healing and Creating Space to Come Back to Yourself with Hope Latimer
Hope Latimer’s relationship with inHarmony stretches back nearly to the beginning—and so does her friendship with co-founder Craig Goldberg.
In this episode, Hope reflects on a period of profound personal transition, spiritual awakening and recovery, and how inHarmony gradually became part of both her personal practice and the work she now does with others.
She and Craig explore the importance of tending to your own inner work before stepping into service, why creating space to decompress matters for practitioners and facilitators, and how Hope incorporates the Sound Lounge into integration work, spiritual practice and everyday self-care.
The conversation also touches on vibroacoustic education, the evolution of Hope’s relationship with the technology, and why having a dedicated place for intentional rest at home can be more valuable than waiting until you feel overwhelmed to seek it out.
A deeply personal conversation about recovery, self-awareness, integration and the ongoing practice of caring for the person behind the work.

This is the InHarmony podcast. Real conversations with the people living and working with our technology. How it's changing their days, their families, their practices, and their communities. Hosted by our co-founder, Craig Goldberg. Let's get InHarmony. All right. Hello, the very spectacular Hope Latimer. Portals of Hope on TikTok. I don't know, this is like a 12 or 14 year relationship that has been ongoing and wrapped around technology and working together. And Hope, I'm so honored for you to be here. Thank you for taking some time with me. Yeah, you're welcome. It's my pleasure. All right. So I mean, this is really like, we're going to try and get 14 years of a relationship into, you know, one 15 or 20 minute podcast. So this might be the first of many. But let's focus on the InHarmony side of our relationship, because there are many layers to this relationship. But take me back to what was happening in your life or your practice right before you found InHarmony. Like, what were you looking for? I mean, obviously, we have a personal relationship. So I don't know that you were looking for us such that I was like, hey, I got this cool thing I'm doing. But let's go back to the beginning of before you had InHarmony in your life. What was going on and what impact did this technology have? Well, I had just kind of come out of a dark night of the soul kind of spiritual awakening that was very disorienting. I felt out of place in my life. I felt out of place in my career, which was great. I felt out of place with my friendships. I felt just really disconnected from everything that made me and I was really kind of in a desperate, sad place and had found myself in a unhealthy relationship and in unhealthy habits, just really avoiding life and myself and this like massive spiritual information that had come to me in the previous years and not really knowing like what to do with myself or even where. So when you, you know, develop the company and said, I've got this really great tech. And I was living in a town that was not so spiritual at the time. And I just thought, hey, OK, let's this might be a tool for me to help you make sales and also bring a level of spirituality that could be relatable to the masses, because the work I had been doing is not relatable to the masses. It's not for everyone. And that was a real hurdle for me. So I thought, OK, here's something that's not about hope. It's not about hope, spiritual journey. It's just about this tech and how it helps you. And I had no way of knowing that it would end up being an instrumental part to my recovery from my addiction and the health issues that came along with that. I mean, there's so much there to unpack. There's I'm very familiar with the work that you've done and I've partaken in a lot of that work that you've done, both side by side, sitting in ceremony with you, around you, helping you to facilitate and you helping me and facilitating me while we sit in various plant medicine journeys and various experiences. This technology obviously works really well with that. I've said this before, not on our podcast, but I've said this before. I've probably had close to 4000 psilocybin experiences. I've worked with many of the different psychedelic substances and the work that goes along with that. And I still get anxious. I still get nervous. I still have that uneasiness in my stomach as I know I'm going. In fact, as I sit now, I'm going into ceremony tonight and I have that uneasiness. And this technology is a big part of helping to calm and relax the mind, body and spirit to go into. It's great during while you're under the influence of these medicines. And it's great afterwards to help with integration as well. It's a really powerful tool. And it's something that, and I've said this before, I still use our technology just about every single day. We've got a new music meditation that just came out and I'm going to do it tonight when I come back from ceremony. And tomorrow we're going to go live and talk about it. But really interesting. You also touched on recovery, which we do quite a bit of work in that space as well. You touched on living in a town, being in relationships that weren't serving you. That aligns very much with Dom and how we, why we started this business in the first place and why he's so passionate about this technology. Anything in there that you want to expand upon? There's so much that you touched on. I don't even know. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I just want to validate that the, that the tech unsurprisingly, again, I never sought this out, landed in my lap through our friendship. And so I never really had any kind of plan or trajectory. And I've, since I've been involved since nearly at the very beginning it, the usage of the tech in my life and practices, both personally and professionally kind of unfolded, you know, through time, you know, during that dark time I was having, I was not involved in serving in any way anyone else. But when I did clear myself and recover and come back to serving others and assisting with, you know, complex integration, which is what I'm more widely known for, the sound lounge absolutely is a key element to every session I do. I have them in my home. It does, you know, release nerves. Like when people show up to have any kind of spiritual works ceremony or non-ceremony, you know, they're anxious, they've been in the car, they sat in traffic, they were trepidatious. They're, you know, it's hard to take a few hours or even a whole day or night away from your life. And so there's just a lot of anxiety that when you show up to an experience, you walk through the door with that. And to be able to say, Hey, why don't you, you know, put your stuff down, take your shoes off. Let's just put you on there, you know, 20 minutes or however long I put, I put the tracks on repeat. I usually do like an 11 minute repeat. And I just say, when you're done, get up. And it is night and day, the energy just, it just is such a miraculous device that loosens the spirit and then opens the person to really work on whatever it is that they're wanting to process that day. So I can't imagine my life without it both personally and professionally. And, and I'm so honored that it's in my life that I now have what three of them. In your new home, in your wonderful, amazing home that you built. Let's go back just for a moment to something you just said, because I think it's just valuable to talk about that. And that is taking care of yourself, tending to your own garden, tending to your own temple first. And look how many people we see in the industry that are trying to serve others when they haven't dealt with their own, their own issues, their own shadow, their own, which by the way, never goes away in my opinion, but the current shadow that is, that is overcast. I think that's really important. And, and something that even I recognize through thousands of, of ceremonies, ritual and some recreational, by the way, that's not all ceremonial experiences. Although I think every life is a ceremony and a ritual, but doing the work on yourself and having this technology as a portal, portal of hope to utilize this, to work on ourselves, I call it the heal, the healer campaign. Technology isn't doing the healing, but us as healers, as people that are there to be a conduit, to be a lightning rod, to attract what we attract, we need to do the work ourselves. It never ends of all the work that I've done on myself. I'm still working on myself. I'm still learning. I'm still getting better and I'm still using this technology to do that. Yeah. It's, it's a process that keeps unfolding. I, you know, I have multiple times over my career taken a multi-year break from serving or assisting or coaching or any kind of service work where I've just, you know, the message was it's, it's time to sit down. Like you need to really sit down and kind of look at where you're coming from and how you're processing. And then, you know, and I, I'm a huge advocate for that. And, you know, and it is a little bit difficult sometimes when you do work in these healing spaces to see the tools that you use for others as tools for yourself. It's so easy to forget. And when I was living in the tiny little house in Los Angeles, you know, it was the, you were there for way too long side note, but it was a big commitment to have space set aside in the house that was for this, you know, this flat laying bed in the middle of a one bedroom bungalow. But I was, I was committed to it because I knew that if it wasn't, if it was out of sight, it would be out of mind. And, and it, it, I can't, I can't even count how many times that it has saved me in, you know, a moment where I just needed, even here, you know, there's days now where I've got it, it's, I'm up in the trees, I'm up in the hills, I'm way out in the country, and I've got it up against the windows. So when you lay down or between, between the tops of the trees and the clouds, and you're just like watching clouds go by, it is, I don't even have to turn it on sometimes. Like I just, I lay there and have my coaching calls and stare out the window. And then when the call's over, I can click play from my phone and turn it on. I don't even have to get up and, and decompress from being of service, which is so important as a healer to discharge, you know, after every interaction, just to keep the vessel clear. So we've got, obviously, a lot of people live in small apartments, particularly in LA, Chicago, New York, I got a buddy here in Vegas, who has been telling me for the last 30 months, he comes over to do sessions, and he gets up and he's like, man, I need one of these in my house, I just don't have the space for it. And I'm like, make the investment, you'll find the space and, and you won't turn back because that's usually the message I get, like, I usually get a photo after somebody in a small apartment who told me they didn't have the space for it. And then they clear space, or they tuck it in a corner, doesn't matter where it is, as long as it's set up, and you have access to roll on and off, and it gradually takes on more and more space. Space is usually never the problem, finding a place to put it, get rid of a couch or a sofa and put in the sound lounge, the cushion. And, oh, absolutely. Was there a moment where you thought over the last nine, 10 years of using this technology? Was there a moment where you thought this is different? And and kind of something clicked for you or something turned on for you or some type of value add was downloaded or pulled from from the technology? Phrase that again. Sorry. So was there Yeah, was there a moment where you thought, okay, this is different? Like this is having a different impact or effect on me? Or maybe it was with a client? Or maybe it was over time where you saw a breakthrough or, or a download or something come to you or you said, okay, vibroacoustic therapy is different than anything I've done before. Or it's it just had a different impact or effect on on your outlook on the technology, its use case, its applicability, that sort of thing. Yeah, I would say that it really started to hit when I got certified as a vibroacoustic therapist with you. What I don't know what year that was, but either 2016. Something like that. No, it would have been a little later. 1917, 18. I don't know a while ago. Yeah, anyway, when I started to understand frequency, right, not just that this is cool music, and the vibration feels cool, and I feel good after but really looking into the the well studied and researched the well researched and studied field of vibroacoustic and frequency on the body. And obviously, that's come a long way since even then, but that that really clicked for me that like, oh, this isn't just a device that feels good. This is scientifically doing things to my nervous system to my body, that can be helpful to a lot of people. And it was about at that time, I think when we were in the class when, you know, I was having some gallbladder issues that were very serious for an extended period of time. And when I would have an attack, instead of going to the ER, I would get on the practitioner, I would put the transducer right under my rib cage, and it would get me through the the pain relief. And ultimately, it was able to recover completely naturally from that. But most people don't most people end up in the ER with a surgery. And, and I was just so I will never forget how grateful I was to keep that organ while I figured out natural ways to heal myself. You know, it was a it was just a tool that was there when I needed it. And it really changed my relationship with the technology. I love it. That was a great course that certification studying the 55 years of science and research that goes into this. There's two things I want to share on that front first. Understanding the science and the research and contributing to that science and research here at InHarmony is really important. We have the world's largest vibroacoustic study done to date that we are pursuing. We're at 252 analyzed unique experiences. When we break 292, we officially become the world's largest. I just found another study that was 292 participants. So we're working towards that, which I think is very exciting. There is, there is the frequency side of things and the impact that it has on your physiology and an opportunity to calm and relax the nervous system, even the stress that we feel around diagnoses and these experiences. InHarmony is the only class one FDA registered manufacturer of vibroacoustic therapy that I know of on the market. And I do look on a regular basis. That class one FDA registration is specifically for relieving minor aches and pains and relaxing muscles. So those are two claims that we can make that this product and this technology and this impact that we have on the human body that is already documented in science and research. And, and I think that's, I think it's really important. We want more of that. Our registration with the FDA puts us on the radar of these three letter agencies. It means we have to hold ourselves to a higher standard. It means we need to create with, to a higher standard. We need to be more careful about what we say and how we say it and the outcomes that we need to be able to substantiate before we can make those claims. And, and we are dedicated to making that happen. It's something I'm very proud of. Our scientific advisory board, data collection, pre and post surveys, working with biotechna, working with companies like BrainTap where we're working with their their neural check, understanding what's actually happening in the body before and after the session so that we can see the impact of a session, not just the anecdotal side, like you mentioned, but understanding what the science is, what impact are we having on your physiology? And the last point I want to make on this front is that the power of sound, music, vibration, frequency, light on our body is, it is so measurable and so easy and so calming. It feels so good. And this technology as a delivery system is something that it doesn't hurt. It's not challenging. It's not difficult. It's not like a cold plunge or a sauna. It's not like hot and cold contrast therapy. It's not like working out. It doesn't hurt. It actually just feels amazing. So you can relax into that experience and, and go back to it over and over and over again. And our music meditations obviously help us do that as well. Yeah. It's amazing. I mean, even just from the like day to day, you know, whether you have a disease or illness type situation going on, just to be able to discharge the day-to-day stress in our very, very hectic world is so valuable and so needed. People need a new way to release and relax. And I think that society is really coming around to that with the levels of sobriety that we're seeing and abstaining from alcohol and intoxicants. And I think that we're just getting started with our ability to introduce other modalities to individuals so that they can feel very balanced in their lives. So I know you already kind of answered this, but if somebody were in your same seat, but it was 10 years ago before you found this technology, what message would you have for them about the technology and about its use or its implementation, either into a home or a business? Well, that's a broad question. I'll address the home use. It's, you know, we carve out these spaces in our homes without a lot of thought, without a lot of, you know, there's so much wasted space that isn't committed to our own wellness and healing. And so I just, I think having the tech inside your house and the ability to not have to outsource your healing to a reiki person or an acupuncturist, or, you know, you don't have to go somewhere. You're home, you're in your own environment, and what a great device to have to relax at the end of your day. Obviously in businesses, I am a big fan of implementing the tech into, you know, businesses that are maybe, you know, serving a broader range of like massage studios or even acupuncture studios, chiropractic offices. As an entrepreneur myself, I see it as an added value revenue center that is almost like self-sustaining, and that once your clients know how to push a button and turn it on and adjust the knobs, they're good to go. And so you've got, you know, the ability to produce some revenue for yourself that does not require your continued hands-on. I see a lot of massage therapists, you know, you age out of that practice, so do chiropractors. And I see as the population getting a little bit older, we have a lot of elderly, we have a lot of retiring practitioners. This is a device where I feel these people can still, these practitioners can still offer a service that does not require their hands-on attention. So I think it's a great addition to any healing business. I love that. Look, with each sale that goes out, I know it's either going into a home, a community, a business, and I get to have my impact through you. So I say thank you so much for all you've done for me personally and through the business. Thank you for supporting us for as long as you have. I'm grateful. Thanks for taking some time with me today, Hope. I love you. Appreciate you. Thank you. Appreciate you. Thanks for spending time with us on the InHarmony podcast. If today's conversation resonated, share it with someone who needs it. And come find us at IamInHarmony.com. Until next time, stay in harmony.
